What new norton processing plant will look like

This artist's impression offers the first glimpse of how Worcestershire's new state-of-the-art recycling plant at Norton will look. The multi-million-pound facility will sort and re-package clean, recycleable household rubbish from across Herefordshire and Worcestershire once it opens on Woodbury Lane in September 2009. It will have the capacity to deal with about 100,000 tonnes of recycleable material each year, and its high-tech sorting mechanisms should mean it can cope with just about any type of recycleable rubbish. It is not designed to deal with any black bin' waste. Once the recycleables have been sorted into categories, they will be bound up and shipped out to firms around the world to be recycled into useable material. The plant was given planning permission last year despite vociferous protests from nearby residents worried about the likely increase in heavy vehicle traffic. Worcestershire County Council insists it has now put measures in place to minimise disruption to villagers.  more...
