FIREFIGHTERS from Bromsgrove went out to a van fire on the M5 between junction four at Lydiate Ash and 4a, Catshill. The engine of the van had overheated in the incident, which happened at around 8am last Wednesday. Crews made the scene safe and there were no injuries.  more...

Drug plea

POLICE are urging the person who found a batch of prescription drugs to hand them in. The drugs, which were left on a bench in Bromsgrove last Thursday after they had just been issued, consist of sleeping pills, anti-psychotic drugs and anti-depressants. The person who found them is asked to hand the tablets in at a hospital, pharmacy or their nearest GP surgery. Alternatively, contact the police on 08457 444888.  more...

Charity sale

A WORCESTERSHIRE charity, whose Bromsgrove office is closing down, is selling its office equipment to raise money. Worcestershire Action and Support Group for Adoptive Parents closes its office at 42B Worcester Road after losing Lottery funding and is holding a sale of office supplies, filing cabinets and stationery. Powick and Callow End

CONGRATULATIONS to four young people who recently played in the Worcestershire Schools' Orchestra Showcase event held at Symphony Hall, Birmingham. From Powick sisters, Louisa and Nicola Sandy took part - Louisa plays violin in the Youth Orchestra and Nicola plays clarinet in the Intermediate Wind Orchestra (and also in the jazz orchestra). Both were pupils at Powick Primary and now attend St Mary's Convent, Worcester. Thomas and Catherine Nichol who when living at Powick attend Callow End Primary School, also took park - Thomas plays saxophone in the Youth Wind Orchestra and Catherine plays violin in the Intermediate Orchestra along with Juliet Wilkes (also on violin) who was a pupil at Callow End Primary School when she lived in the village.  more...

We were reminded of Pat's amazing energy and enthusiasm for life and how much she involved herself in the whole benefice. THE first thing to mention this week is the concert at the St. James Church which took place on the May 16 and saw the well-known Gloucestershire folk singer, Johnny Coppin (singer/songwriter) appearing with Keith Burgess (violin and recorders). This was highly enjoyable and raised in excess of £300 for the Church's Development Fund. Thank you to all who supported the event. The quiz night at the village hall on May 13 for the Orang-utan Sanctuary in Borneo raised approximately £230 profit. Thank you to all who came and supported the event.  more...
