Longdon

LAST Sunday, a vast number of children were seen heading towards Longdon Village Green where an exciting event was taking place in aid of World Vision Ethiopia. Bouncy Castles galore were there for the children to play and bounce on to their hearts' content! What a fantastic time they had and the weather could not have been better. Delicious refreshments kept the adults happy while their children played safely on the castles, taking part in football matches, or had their faces expertly painted. The castles were carefully supervised to ensure the safety of children at all times. Thank you to Sally and Adrian Sinclair who sponsored this event with their wonderful selection of bouncy castles. If anyone would like to hire these please contact Sally and Adrian on 01684 833356. Over £350 was raised for World Vision. Thank you to everyone who supported this event.  more...

I KNOW you will all be sad to hear that Bernard (Lee) passed away on Sunday, May 4. Our thoughts are with you Kathleen. We shall all miss you Bernard.  more...

Bosbury

THE 2008 Bosbury Cider and Blossom Festival was held last Saturday in glorious sunshine which ensured a capacity crowd of over 400 people. The festival was the first major village event since the completion of phase one of the parish hall refurbishment programme and before the festival was officially opened by Mary Bennett, Nat Hone thanked the community for their fundraising efforts and the various grant making bodies for their support. Salome Jefferson was crowned May Queen and Holly Clayton and Freya Jones her two princesses. The crowning ceremony was conducted by last year's May Queen, Georgie Nichols. Bosbury School choir entertained with a wonderful medley of songs featuring their rendition of The Bosbury Cider Drinker. The children's poetry competition attracted eight entries and the judges were encouraged by the neat handwriting and illustrations and congratulated all who took part. A maypole dancing team from Cradley School led by Heather and Peter George gave an entertaining demonstration. A static display of vintage cars, a boat and old cider making equipment made a good backdrop to teh heavy horse, the blacksmith and the sheep shearing demonstration. The plant stall and the new Bosbury Nursery situated at Catley with their display of fruiting and ornamental garden trees, attracted the keen gardeners. Following the guided orchard walks around Temple Court, the splendid barbecue and the local cider and apple juice available were much appreciated. The delicious cream teas with home-made cakes were very popular and Jenny Rees and Janet Biddulph would like to thank all the village bakers who responded to their request for cakes, one of the best selections ever! The well organised duck races down the River Leadon completed a lovely family day out which everyone enjoyed. The final figures are not yet to hand, the proceeds will be split between the church, the hall and the school.  more...

West Malvern

DISCONTENT with the continuing weekend vandalism and night-time disturbances on lower West Malvern Road surfaced at Monday's Parish Council meeting, when some 20 residents attended to voice a series of complaints and demands. As well as damage to parked vehicles, there were reports of urination in gardens and bus shelters, lighted cigarettes being put through letterboxes - and even a claim that an agreed house sale had fallen through because of what the would-be purchasers had witnessed on a visit to the village. Fears were voiced that incidents involving violence and injury could take place if the problems were not effectively addressed. Demands included changes to the licensing hours of the Lamb Inn, removal of its music license and even its complete closure. Dissatisfaction with policing performance was expressed, particularly in respect of a CCTV camera which had been installed to monitor the problems but which had never worked owing to a faulty computer system and had now been removed. Fourteen residents said they had phoned the police on more than one occasion to report activities - often between 1am-3am - without getting any worthwhile response. Parish Council chairman Joyce Roberts assured residents of the council's sympathy and concern. It was agreed that the Council would draw the issues to the attention of the Chief Constable of West Mercia Constabulary, and with local MP Sir Michael Spicer, while the licensing hours of the Lamb Inn were being raised with the District Council by Cllr Jennie Kelly.  more...
