St John's teams rue missed chances

St John's v St Catherine's football tournaments Two St John's teams knew they were going to be up against it when they met St Catherine's at Baxter College, because they were fielding more league and year 6 players. The first two matches ended in disappointment for both St John's teams. Their A team lost 3-1 to St Catherine's A. St John's were 3-0 down, when Connor Bayliss scored to put the game in the balance. Plenty of chances came their way, with Jack Beadsworth hitting the post and Connor forcing many good saves from the St Catherine's goalie, but to no avail. St John's B team lost 6 -1 to St Catherine's B although Daniel Hunter scored an excellent goal. The second match for St John's A against St Catherine's B was much tighter, losing just 2-1 with again Connor Bayliss getting the goal after some good play. St John's B put up determined effort against St Catherine's A, but the Marlpool school proved too strong and won 4-1. In a reply tournament at St Catherine's St John's fielded one team and lost 3-0 and 4-0.   more...
