At the time of the storm, every road was turned into a brook, and the town's brook rose by two feet. Buildings were flooded and at Church Mills, 11 pigs and 26 fowls were drowned.  more...

Past

From the Archives - May 1, 2008

100 Years Ago May 2, 1908 Evesham United brought their long list of league fixtures to a close on Saturday when they entertained and defeated Bidford in a Bidford and District League encounter by six goals to nil. Bidford were delayed by the snow and in consequence the match did not start until 4pm. The united at once took up the attack and for the greater part of the game penned the visitors in their own half. However, Bidford packed their goal and the united succeeded in scoring only once in the first half, Knight doing the needful from a corner. In the second moiety the united continued to hold the upper hand and scored five more goals. Tallis had two, Ovard and W Malin one each and the other was rushed through from a scrimmage. Bidford played a very unsportsmanlike game and deliberately kicked the ball out of play without cause on many occasions.  more...

Brockencote WI

Our meeting was well attended. More names were added to the Ryton/Coventry visit. Ten seats had been booked for the Rose Theatre's production Ladies Day and the two spares were quickly taken up. The cost of the summer lunch at Jan Miller's on July 10 would be £12.50. Our members' visit to Stoke Prior was a great success. Ann Ripper gave notice of Chaddesley WI's two theatre visits. Then the general meeting was closed For the AGM, Val Wood, treasurer, gave an excellent report which was proposed, seconded and unanimously adopted by the members. Kay Palmer, secretary, gave a full and accurate account of our year's activities in her annual report. Chris Jordan, president, thanked them both for their hard work. Chris was stepping down as president and programme secretary.  more...

Bromsgrove Railway Club

For our May meeting, the club welcomes back Derby-based Les Henshaw with another of his excellent cine film presentations. This time the presentation is entitled Railways in The Steam Age so once again we are in for an excellent evening's entertainment. Les helps run the Matlock Railway Club and he also has a very large selection of cine films, which he shows on their club nights, plus he does a number of presentations to other groups as well. Les has been involved with railways for a very long time so he brings with his show a vast knowledge of his subject, which we are looking forward to. Cine film presentations are always excellent nights, you can relive your memories with the silver screen, also see steam engines in action. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 14, at St Godwald's church hall, Aston Fields. The doors open at 7.15 for a 7.45pm start. Refreshments are available and there will be a book stall.  more...
