Letters

Justify your jobs and support Kays rail site

SIR - Instead of Worcester council's negative responses to allocating part of the Kays site for a train halt station citing lack of funds and the excuse it could jeopardise the entire project, I believe they could justify their jobs by supporting the idea.  more...

Her record is far from blameless

SIR - I can well understand the discomfort felt by my ward colleague Margaret Layland at being seen to be in bed with the Conservatives, but her indignation (April 12) should not be allowed to obscure the truth.  more...

No wonder they are so unpopular

SIR - It appears that the county council is one of the least popular in the country, and they seem puzzled to understand why.  more...

Thank you for all your kindness

SIR - We often complain about how badly some firms treat their customers, but I would like to name one who bent over backwards to help me.  more...

Keep part of the Kays site for trains or trams

SIR - I see there's a proposal to build homes on the former Kays site. Let's hope the councillors will look to the future and keep part of it for a rail or tram stop and don't let the opportunity slip away.  more...

Gullible George

SIR - George Cowley is not so gullible (April 12). As a little lad I was once struck full in the face by a hard cricket ball. Since then I have deliberately avoided all contact with cricket. Your April Fool joke was to me no more than a long overdue safety measure.  more...

Council – keep up the good work

Arts funding

I UNDERSTAND that Malvern Hills District Council is proposing to cut the grant to Malvern Theatres by some £40,000. I should like to point out that in the Conservative Manifesto, pledge four, they said they would, and I quote "Continue to support our theatres and the local arts groups and users, such as Autumn in Malvern, The Elgar Society and Malvern Theatres players." Reducing the budget by such a sum is a very strange way of showing continued support.  more...

Council excuse

IT IS hardly surprising that the members of Malvern in Bloom and the Chairman of the Town Council were 'amazed and amused' to hear that the reason for not providing hanging baskets in Priory Park was so that Malvern Hills District Council could make 'very significant reductions in its emissions'. Whilst it is a highly commendable aim, it is such a shame that the Council fails to be consistent in its approach and cannot find alternative ways of watering the flowers, such as using the water from the pond which is next to the bandstand.  more...

Memory Lane

100 Years Ago, April 25, 1908

EASTER had produced overcoat' weather with snow falling on Sunday, Monday and all day on Thursday prompting Bromsgrove residents to go about wishing each other Merry Christmas.' The hardy souls, determined to enjoy the bank holiday either in motor cars or on cycles, were seen returning home in the evening distinctly chilled in the teeth of a rousing north-easter.  more...

LATE April through to June is my favourite time to get out onto the district's wetlands and have a good look round. I try to do this quietly and usually with one other member of the Ranger Service.
