Co-operation between MP and city? Never!

SIR - The Worcester News' reasoned comment on wheelie bins (February 29), while correct in most respects, does, I consider, appear far too optimistic as regards any co-operation between our opportunist MP and the city council.  more...

The city now looks a tip at all times

SIR -I have followed the great wheelie bin debate by reading the websites of your sister papers across the nation and it's obvious to me that these infernal objects were imposed upon us by central government and not by local councils at all.  more...

Thanks to all staff in the Cedar Ward

Why not support an amendment?

SIR - Speaking on the Bill to ratify the Lisbon Treaty, Europe Minister Jim Murphy emphasised that the UK Parliament is still sovereign, quoting from a 19th century textbook that it has: "The right to make or unmake any law whatever". So, why should Mr Murphy, or indeed any other MP, be reluctant to support a sensible precautionary amendment, new clause nine, which for the avoidance of doubt confirms that our sovereign Parliament will remain sovereign even if the new treaty is ratified?  more...

I prefer Shirley

SIR - I've never heard of Tamla Motown, Berry Gordy's legendary company in the 1960s (John Phillpott, February 23). I was more into Lulu and Miss Bassey (with a little Mozart thrown in).  more...

Past

From the Archives - March 6, 2008

100 Years Ago March 7, 1908 SOME time ago we suggested the possibility of an Evesham Pageant and pointed out some of the main incidents in the town's history which would lend themselves to effective treatment. We are very pleased to see that the vicar, in the current number of the Evesham Parish Magazine, again brings this project forward. In May of next year it will be 1,200 years since the first church in Evesham was dedicated and in connection with the commemoration it is hoped to have a scenic representation of the chief events in the religious history of the town. The vicar suggests that it is possible that the town as a whole may wish to arrange a pageant. He very truly adds that there are few places which could furnish a more attractive series of incidents than Evesham.  more...
