Wychbold Women’s Fellowship

Several weeks ago I became aware of the fact that Angela had informed just about everybody in the united parish, perhaps also everybody else with whom she came into contact in her busy life, that I would be 90-years-old at the beginning of March, writes Pay Kay. The result was that many friends wanted to make a celebration and so we declared open house for the day. My house was taken over by teams of friends who made sandwiches and many other delectable goodies to offer hospitality to all who had been kind enough to respond to the invitation to join us. Everybody seemed to be happy to be there and I most certainly was. It was an occassion to remember with Jane Baker's delicious cake, iced by Pat Tonks, shared during a toast drunk in pretty pink Cava. And so I thank you all for your affectionate wishes, gifts and invaluable support and for getting me through this landmark so happily. By the end of March there will have been another celebration, this one honouring the diamond wedding of Pat and Len Tonks. What an achievement! We wish them continued happiness and good health and will join them and their family at the service in Wychbold Church at the end of March. The next meeting will be on Monday, April 21, at 7.30pm in The Poplars.  more...

Chaddesley Corbett Gardeners’ Club

CHRIS Hodgetts addressed our March meeting about the restoration of Hill Close Gardens in Warwick. Chris is an historian and was approached in 1993 by residents in the vicinity of a derelict garden which was proposed for development. The residents believed the garden was of historical value. Chris established that the area was the site of what were called detached gardens. They were used as leisure gardens by town dwellers and despite the fact that they were common in the 18th and 19th century, only three others have survived throughout the country. English Heritage was approached and the gardens are now protected. Our meeting on Wednesday, April 9, is entitled The Green Gym and Philip Aubrey will be talking to us about healthy living and eating vegetables.  more...
