Hall hire

WE were sorry to learn of the imminent closure of an important local amenity (Civil Service Social Club) (Malvern Gazette, March 7). We appreciate the plight of some of the regular local groups who used their facilities and have no venue now. We would invite any of those "homeless" groups to contact us in order to see if we can help with accommodation. There are a few times when our church hall is not in use and we may be able to accommodate these. Our hall can accommodate up to 60/70 folk and there are parking and excellent catering and toilet facilities. Garden development

I WAS very shocked to learn recently from a Malvern resident that the town continues to lose two gardens a week on average to new development. In fact in 2005, 57% of new homes in Malvern were built on previously residential land - usually former gardens, compared to 18% nationally (Source: Hansard, June 20, 2006 Col 1744). This is because back gardens are officially classified as "brownfield" sites and therefore there is very little that Malvern Hills District Council can do to prevent this "garden-grabbing". This new building is also doing very little to increase the supply of affordable homes for first time buyers, since most of the new developments are of fewer than 15 houses, the level above which councils can insist on a percentage of affordable properties.  more...

Garden developments

I NOTE that politicians express surprise and concern at the fact that many people feel disenfranchised from and are highly sceptical of the political process. Well, following my recent experience of the planning process, it no longer surprises me. We live in a pleasant and leafy part of town. However, all that is about to change, for a developer is now a neighbour.  more...
