Fatal crash

A RUBERY man, who died after a collision with a tree, has been named as Paul Naughton. The accident happened when the Ford Fiesta he was driving, travelling towards the Lickey Hills, crashed into a tree in Lickey Road, Rednal. The 19-year-old sustained severe injuries in the accident, which happened at 6.10am on February 17. He died later at Selly Oak Hospital. A 17-year-old female passenger, from Bartley Green, also suffered serious injuries in the crash. A West Midlands Police spokesman said she remained in a critical, but stable condition. Traffic officers at Bournville Lane police station are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information should ring 0845 113 5000.  more...

FIREFIGHTERS were called to Stoke Works to extinguish a street lamp fire on Wednesday, February 20, morning. The street light, outside the PolymerLatex offices in Weston Hall Road, was well alight when firefighters arrived just after midnight. VANDALS slashed tyres in an overnight rampage in Bromsgrove last week. Four cars at three properties in Stoke Road were targeted in the incident overnight on Tuesday, February 19. Dog bites dog

DROITWICH Spa police want to talk to a couple who helped a man after his dog was bitten by another dog. The dog owner was walking his golden retriever through fields near Celvestune Way on Friday, February 22, at around 2pm when what looked like a bull terrier cross ran over and bit it round the neck. The dog would not let go, but the man and woman ran over to help get it off the injured pet. Officers would now like to speak to the couple about the incident. AN entertaining quiz evening was held at Powick Parish Hall last Saturday when 16 teams of four competed to raise money for Worcestershire Wildlife Trust. Among the ten rounds topics covered general knowledge, science and nature, music, film, roads etc and the questionmaster was Gwyn Williams. Five teams were composed of people from Powick and Callow End and the team On Spec (Bob and Mary Fleming, Bob and Sarah Allam) came joint second. Jim Handley thanked teh question master and his team of scorers and those who prepared excellent ploughmans suppers. Among the raffle winners was Jenny Flubacher. Indoor meetings of the Wildlife Trust (Malvern Group) are held at the Chase Sixth Form Annexe, Geraldine Close, Malvern at 7.30pm on the first Thursday of the month. The site will become known as the Elim International Centre, and will incorporate both the college and the international offices of the Elim Pentecostal churches.
