Automative industry in search of its top talent

THE search for the best car manufacturing talent in Worcestershire has got under way with the launch of what organisers are calling this year's automative Oscars.' Now seen as the largest event of its kind in the industry, the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce-backed Accelerate Awards is on the look-out for some of the finest and best in class component manufacturers, with companies urged to showcase innovation, quality and new contracts. The event, which will be held on Friday, July 11, at the ICC in Birmingham, will celebrate environmental performance, export and skills and workforce development.  more...

Actor Jack Dillon

THIS photograph shows the late Jack Dillon, a former professional local actor, who terrorised audiences at the Palace Theatre with his portrayal of Sweeny Todd, the demon barber, in the 1940s. Together with his wife, Jack reinacted the gruesome scenes where the barber slaughtered his victims before turning them into meat pies. Redditch entertainer Colin Wheeler, who provided the photograph, said: "Jack will also be remembered for having a small grocery shop on the right hand side, halfway down Bates Hill. He was a lovely man and always helpful and supportive to those of us involved in the local entertainment scene."  more...

Ledbury is open

AT a packed public meeting in Ledbury's Burgage Hall on Tuesday, January 22 it was widely agreed that it was unfortunate that many people outside the town believed Ledbury was inaccessible during the works to replace the water mains. Could I reassure your readers nothing could be further from the truth. All roads remain open, the temporary one way system through the town (although a minor inconvenience) does not prevent people getting to the town's cheap car parks (some are even free) and all businesses and services remain fully open.  more...
