Lunch box and flask if taking packed lunches or booked school lunches 6. Waterproof coat 7. Haircuts/hair bands etc 8. Made a note of all allergy details/medication if required 9. Pencil case 10. Pens, Pencils, Ruler, Eraser etc 11. Labelled everything with your child's name 12. Organised transport and bus passes 13. If your child is walking, organised him/her to walk with friends 14. If your child is using a bike, checked all the lights and brakes are working correctly and that they have a safety helmet 15. Make sure that the school has emergency contact numbers 16. 25 Years Ago - July 30, 1982

FRANK Haines, a hale and hearty 88-year-old, and a regular at the Gate Hangs Well pub at Woodgate, near Bromsgrove, for the past 70 years was celebrating after landlord Mark Giles decreed he should be given a pint of his favourite mild on the house every day in recognition of his long standing custom. Frank, who lived in nearby Woodgate Cottages, visited his local twice a day and it was estimated during those 70 years he had drunk 51,100 pints or 6,000 gallons. He had taken his first tentative sip of ale at the age of 12 while working at a cider mill opposite the pub.  more...

50 Years Ago - August 10, 1957

THERE was a record attendance at Barnt Green's annual bank holiday flower show held at the Poplars in Bittell Road. Before the opening Bromsgrove Town Band led a fancy dress parade through the village to the show. In addition to the horticultural exhibits were various sideshows and a baby show. Lucky John Pratt from Rednal demonstrated his bowling skills by winning both the pig and a barrel of beer.  more...

100 Years Ago - August 10, 1907

RESIDENTS in Bromsgrove were looking forward to an improved postal service thanks to the Post Office acquiring a delivery motor van. In future letters destined for the Birmingham area and posted in the town up to 4pm would be guaranteed delivery that same evening. Lizard stolen

A PET lizard, worth about £300, has been stolen from a home in Bromsgrove, the second similar theft recently. Bromsgrove police have appealed for the safe return of the reptile stolen in a burglary last weekend. Sometime between 8 and 11pm on Sunday, a flat in the Charford area was broken into and the bearded dragon stolen. The lizard is said to be about 50cm long and mainly grey with an orange beard. A spokesman for Bromsgrove police said: "The theft of her lizard has left the owner feeling distraught and we are appealing for anyone with information to pass this on to police as soon as they can. A similar lizard was stolen in Charford recently, but was later returned safe and well and the owner is hopeful that the same will happen with her pet." Anyone with information regarding the burglary is asked to call PC Fludgate, at Bromsgrove police station, on 08457 444 888 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.  more...
