KIDDERMINSTER is definitely in England - but that did not stop the town's choir from winning a top Welsh title.
Kidderminster Male Choir was in fine voice when it was crowned Welsh Association of Male Choirs' Choir of the Year at Pontins in Brean Sands, Somerset, on Saturday.
Members claimed the title - along with £1,000 and a trophy - for the second time in four years after fending off competition from three other native choirs.
Choir general secretary Don Moore said: "We got half an hour in the morning to rehearse and get the feel of the acoustics.
"We were the last choir to sing and the rules said we couldn't hear anybody else so we couldn't tell what we were up against."
Forty-four choir members travelled to the competition and had to sing for 15 minutes in the afternoon before being crowned winners.
They then entertained the other choirs for about 25 minutes in the evening before inviting them to join in a rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone.
And the night rounded off in unlikely fashion when members joined forces with performers at a rock `n' roll event on the other side of the camp for more musical fun.
